19th century finely hand-carved Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting Daruma who is awaking from his meditation; yawning with his mouth wide open, his head turned towards his right, and his arms stretched out in front of him. Very real and almost painful expression in this miniature carving. The extended arms form a natural himotoshi. Unsigned. <br /> Netsuke measures: 2.40 inches (6.0cm) long (at his stretched right leg), 1.41 inches (3.6cm) tall, and 1.7 inches (3.0cm) wide. It is in excellent preserved condition (the robe may have been re-touched, but very well done), as may be seen in the posted photos.
